Chief Host: Arc. Lanre Okunlola, Member, House of Representatives, Surulere Constituency II
The Member of the House of Representatives for Surulere Constituency II, Arc. (Hon.) Lanre Okunlola, today led a major empowerment programme aimed at supporting traders, pensioners, and senior citizens across communities within the constituency.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Okunlola reaffirmed that the wellbeing of the people of Surulere Constituency II remains one of his core priorities. He emphasized that his commitment to improving livelihoods is a fulfillment of the mandate entrusted to him by the electorate.
The federal legislator also used the occasion to outline some of the notable achievements recorded under his stewardship. He stressed that the steady progress witnessed across the constituency is the result of strategic partnerships, collaborative governance, and people-focused initiatives.
Hon. Okunlola commended the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, for his steadfast support and invaluable contributions to the development of Surulere. He described him as a pillar of progress whose influence continues to positively shape the constituency.
During the grant presentation, qualified beneficiaries received financial support of ₦200,000 and ₦150,000 respectively. According to the organisers, the grants are intended to boost small-scale businesses, strengthen vulnerable households, and improve the welfare of elderly residents.
The Executive Chairman of Itire–Ikate LCDA, Hon. Oluwafemi Daniel Odunayo, attended the ceremony alongside his Coker–Aguda counterpart, Hon. Azeez Ogidan. Both council chairmen praised the federal lawmaker, describing him as a dependable leader whose performance reflects genuine commitment to the people’s needs.
In his goodwill message, Hon. Odunayo applauded Hon. Okunlola for his numerous people-oriented programmes and the infrastructural developments spread across Surulere Constituency II. He noted that the MHR has consistently implemented impactful initiatives that directly benefit residents at the grassroots.
The Itire–Ikate Chairman also announced that his administration is set to introduce additional empowerment schemes tailored specifically for the elderly and senior citizens within the LCDA. He reiterated the council’s dedication to welfare, inclusiveness, and sustainable community development.
In a show of unity, the League of APC Apex Leaders across Surulere Constituency II expressed their unanimous support for the re-election of Hon. Okunlola. They described his performance as exemplary and reaffirmed that the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is crucial and non-negotiable for Nigeria’s continued progress.
The well-attended event attracted an array of dignitaries, including APC chieftains and apex leaders from across Lagos State and Surulere Constituency II, honorable councilors from the Itire–Ikate and Coker–Aguda Legislative Arms, Mrs. Vivian Odunayo (wife of the executive chairman), community leaders, stakeholders, market associations, traders, and artisans.
